Sweet Fennel Calzones Recipe

Sweet Fennel Calzones Recipe

8 servings



6 cups thinly sliced fennel bulb

1 1/2 cups chopped onion

2/3 cup chopped red bell pepper

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup shredded fat-free mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup fat-free sour cream

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 package hot roll mix

1 1/4 cups very hot water

1 tablespoon olive oil

2 tablespoons fat-free milk


Cook fennel, onion, bell pepper, and garlic in lightly greased large skillet, covered, over medium heat until tender, about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Cool, stir in cheese and sour cream. Season to taste with salt and pepper.


Make hot roll mix according to package directions for pizza, using hot water and oil. Divide dough into 8 equal pieces, roll each piece of dough on floured surface into a 7-inch circle. Spoon about 2/3 cup fennel mixture on each: fold into halves and flute edges of dough or seal with tines of fork. Brush tops of pastries with milk. Bake on greased cookie sheet at 375 degrees until browned, about 15 minutes. Cut calzones into halves.
