Pasta Puttanesca Recipe

Pasta Puttanesca Recipe

Ham, olives, and red pepper flakes and distinctive flavor to this popular sauce.



3 large onions, chopped

2 teaspoons minced garlic

2 1/2 tablespoons olive oil

1 cup diced lean ham or Canadian bacon

2 cans reduced-sodium tomatoes, undrained, chopped

1/4 cup sliced green olives

2 teaspoons dried basil leaves

1/8 - 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper

Salt and pepper, to taste

16 ounces spaghetti, cooked, warm


Saute onion and garlic in olive oil in large saucepan until tender and lightly browned, about 10 minutes. Add remaining ingredients, except salt, pepper, and spaghetti and heat to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, until thickened to medium sauce consistency, about 15 minutes, season to taste with salt and pepper. Serve over spaghetti.
