Walnut Raisin French Toast with Rum Syrup Recipe

6 servings



3 eggs

3/4 cup fat-free milk

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

12 slices raisin-walnut bread

Warm Rum Syrup


Warm Rum Syrup ingredients:

1/4 cup sugar

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1 1/4 cups fat-free milk

2 tablespoons light rum or 1/2 teaspoon rum extract

2 tablespoons margarine or butter

1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg


Beat egg, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon in pie plate, coat both sides of bread slices with egg mixture. Cook bread slices over medium heat in lightly greased large skillet until golden, about 5 minutes on each side. Serve with Warm Rum Syrup.


Warm Rum Syrup:

Mix sugar and cornstarch in small saucepan, whisk in milk and rum and heat to boiling. Boil, whisking until thickened, about 1 minute. Remove from heat, stir in margarine and nutmeg.
