Spicy Crab and Scallop Chowder Recipe

The flavor kick in this seafood chowder comes from pickling spice!

 

Ingredients:

1 medium onion, chopped

1 rib celery, chopped

1 tablespoon margarine or butter

1 1/2 cups clam juice

1 can reduced-sodium stewed tomatoes, undrained

2 teaspoons pickling spice, tied in cheesecloth

1 can lump crabmeat, drained

8 ounces bay scallops

1/4 - 1/2 cup 2% reduced-fat milk

Salt and pepper, to taste

Method:

Saute onion and celery in margarine in large saucepan until softened. Add clam juice, tomatoes with liquid, and pickling spice tied in a cheesecloth bag. Heat to boiling, stir in crabmeat, scallops and milk. Simmer, covered until scallops are cooked and opaque, about 4 minutes. Discard pickling spice. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
