Tomato Sauce with Italian Sausage Recipe

4 cups



8 ounces Italian-style turkey sausage, casing removed, crumbled

2 cups chopped onions

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon each: dried basil, tarragon and thyme leaves

2 cans reduced-sodium whole tomatoes, undrained, coarsely chopped

2 cans reduced-sodium tomato sauce

1 cup water

1-2 teaspoons sugar

1/4 teaspoon each: salt, pepper


Saute sausage, onions, garlic, and herbs in lightly greased large saucepan until lightly browned, about 5 minutes, add remaining ingredients, heat to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, until sauce is reduced to about 4 1/2 cups, 15 to 20 minutes.
