Shortbread Pastry Recipe

1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup powdered sugar

Pinch salt

5 tablespoons cold margarine or butter, cut into pieces

1 egg, lightly beaten

1 teaspoon vanilla


Combine flour, sugar, and salt in medium bowl. Cut in margarine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Mix in combined egg and vanilla with fork, stirring just until mixture forms a dough. Form dough into a ball, flatten slightly and wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate 1 hour. Roll and bake as recipe directs.
