Meringue Layers Recipe

4 egg whites

1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar

1 cup sugar


Beat egg whites and cream of tartar to soft peaks in large bowl, beat to stiff peaks, adding sugar gradually. Spread mixture on greased and floured bottoms of 2 inverted 9-inch round cake pans, spreading to edges of pans. Bake at 350 degrees until meringues are golden and crisp, about 40 minutes. Carefully remove meringues from pan bottoms with metal spatula, cool on wire rack.
