Sweet Stuffed French Toast Recipe

4 servings

 

Ingredients:

4 thick slices sourdough or Italian bread

4 tablespoons fat-free cream cheese

4 tablespoons strawberry or other flavor fruit preserves

2 eggs

1/4 cup fat-free half-and-half or fat-free milk

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1-2 tablespoons margarine or butter

1 cup maple syrup or light pancake syrup, warm

Method:

Cut a pocked in the side of each bread slice, fill with each with 1 tablespoon cream cheese and 1 teaspoon preserves. Lightly beat eggs, half-and-half, and spices in shallow bowl. Dip bread in egg mixture, turning to coat both sides.

 

Cook bread slices in margarine in large skillet on medium to medium-low heat until browned, about 5 minutes on each side. Serve with warm syrup.
