Empanada Pastry Recipe

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon sugar

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1/8 teaspoon salt

3 tablespoons vegetable shortening

1 teaspoon lemon juice or distilled white vinegar

4 tablespoons fat-free milk or water


Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in small bowl, cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Mix in lemon juice and milk, a tablespoon at a time, to form soft dough. Refrigerate until ready to use.
